The first Swedish gold krona coins were issued by King Oscar II. He introduces the so called “guldmyntfoten” in Sweden and with this guldmyntfot, the first gold kronas were minted in the following denominations: 20 kr, 10 kr (and 5 kr). The coins were issued during the years 1873 – 1902. Sweden also issued gold coins prior to 1873 but then the currency was called Mark or Ducat (trade coins), which makes the krona coins classics in the group of Swedish gold coins.
Unfortunately a large number of coins were melted down, especially during times when the price of gold reached high levels, so merely approx 10% of the total amount of coins minted, still remain on the market. This fact alone has made it very difficult to find coins of superior quality. Tavex now offers the first gold kronas in the denominations 20 kr and 10 kr, without taking any potential numismatic value in to account.
